McMaster's cutoff last year was a bit lower than 83% I think, so if you're at 84-85% you shouldn't really be too worried. Hope to see you guys there if I decide to attend.

Yeah, it changes from year to year. I've been speaking with an admissions officer from McMaster and she told me that this year the cut-off for Engineering I is at 85%. They're not expecting it to drop. They had an increase in applicants this year, who all applied with averages higher than those who applied last year.

I wrote it earlier. I was admitted with a 85.2% average based on 5 completed grade 12 courses, with only physics being a pre-req, which is kind of odd, if the cutoff is 85...

Sorry about that, I didn't realize. I'm pretty sure they used your grade 11 marks for the missing grade 12 marks, or if you had your midterm marks for grade 12 in, then they will have used those in place for the missing prerequisites.

The cutoff is definitely not 85%. The admission average perhaps can be 85%. The cutoff is around low 80s (82-83).

The cut-off is not in the low 80's. There are people accepted in the past few years, where there averages been within the 75%-79% range. According to the stastics, no person was accepted below the 75% average marks from the past few years.

There's a difference between "cut-off" and "admission averages". The admission average is around the ~83% percentile range, with ~30% of the applications being accepted with people within the 80% - 84 % percentage range and also another ~30% from the 85% - 89 % percentage range. I am going to the assume the cut-off is in within the 75% - 79% range.

The admission average is actually around 86% if I recall correctly, but since there is no supplementary application, an average below that can still guarantee admission. I'd assume the 75-79% admissions were of some special circumstances. If the cutoff was truly in that range, then that would mean anyone with an 80% or higher is guaranteed admission, which I don't think is the case. I'd say the cutoff is around 82%, but that's all speculation.

According to the admissions officer that I was conversing with, "At the present time the interim admission cutoff range is 85% and above for Engineering 1." I should have been more specific.

Well in that case, I should have got my offer already XD.

When did you apply? Was your average at or above 85 at the time you applied?
