I was granted AEO status earlier this month.
I decided to take political science for my first two years of university and while I was registering myself for OSAP, I selected the Social Science program with 4 years for "total years in program".
When I logged into my profile on Western's website however, it says I was registered for Social Science intended for 3 years under my academics section. I am guessing the 3 years is comprised of 2 years for my first two years of university and the last year after 2 years of Ivey.
Is this a major problem and do I need to mail the correct written copy to OSAP in order to correct this mistake?
Or does the number of years "intended" to study matter and is it something that I can change in my year 2 of the social science program?

Hi Kate,
Just a little background of me. So I finished CEGEP and am now heading to second year in University of Ottawa. I want to transfer to Ivey year 3 and 4 after my second year of Ottawa.
This means that I will only have 1 year in ottawa to get some EC, grades, etc to impress Ivey.
1) Basically, after I finish my second year in Ottawa, I plan on having adequate grade for ivey but my EC's will only show club involvement as an ordinary member (no an executive, since I can't get exec position being only 1 year in the club) which is hard to prove leadership with. What am I supposed to do now? Will Ivey understand that I'm from CEGEP and that I only had 1 year to accomplish all these things?
2) If I apply after my 3rd year in Ottawa U, will I be enrolled at the 3rd year of HBA or 4th year?
3) I read "The Admission Committee not only looks at your grades but at the level and difficulty of your course selection." on the Ivey website. How will I know the level of difficulty of my classes? Does this mean that the harder the class I take, the better it will look on my application?
Thank you so much!

For Year 2 AEOs, how many of their chosen courses have to be part of their module? I heard at least 2.0 courses, giving you the choice to select up to 3.0 electives. University of Western Ontario - BMOS + Ivey AEO - Class of 2015

Could you give me a bit more info on how the admission process is for American students? I'm a Canadian citizen, so I'm not worried about visas, etc. I'm more interested in credits, how I will report my marks, and how my average is calculated.
Thanks!
Connor Hi Connor, Sorry for the late response, I am only just becoming familiar with student awards and will be replying much quicker now. I’m not sure if you are coming from an American secondary school or American university so I’ve provided information for both of them. For American Secondary Schools, all conversions, marks and averages will be calculated by Western University first, and then Ivey will pull the marks from there. On the link provided, you will be able to see the current information for students coming from U.S. secondary schools (http://welcome.uwo.ca/preview/admissions/hsus.html). A competitive AEO application would have an average of 90%. AEO Application Process - http://www.ivey.uwo.ca/h...ss/secondary-school.htm
For students transferring from American universities, the requirements to gain acceptance to Ivey are similar to the requirements for Western students. These general requirements include: • You must be in a full course load for your program/module, • You must have no grades under 60%, • All courses must be worth a ½ credit or more, • All program/module requirements must be followed, • Complete Western’s Business 2257 course or equivalent, • Complete a secondary school mathematics course for students bound for university or an equivalent. HBA Application Process - http://www.ivey.uwo.ca/h...sity-students/index.htm

I don’t believe that this is a major problem, however I would contact Western’s Student Services just to clarify the situation and to find out why it says Social Science intended for 3 years. You can find the contact information here and they should be able to shed some light on your situation: http://www.registrar.uwo...dent_central_office.htmlAlan Neal, HBA 2012 | Associate, HBA Recruiting HBA Program Services Richard Ivey School of Business | The University of Western Ontario 1151 Richmond St. London, ON www.ivey.uwo.caCheck out our FAQ Join us on FacebookFollow us on Twitter

Thank you so much! 1) While Ivey does focus heavily on extracurricular involvement it is not necessary to hold a title in the club or organization to gain admission to Ivey. We are looking for action, initiative and contribution which illustrate your leadership ability. It is possible to be a leader and not hold a true title or position in a club. We also look at time commitment so someone who spends 5+ hours a week on an activity would be contributing more than someone who simply attends bi-weekly meetings for an hour. 2) As long as you meet the following university requirements, it will be possible for you to be accepted into Year 1 of the HBA program. Complete years 1 & 2 (or more) at Western or any other university. Pursue any course of study at any university and ensure that you: • Maintain a full course load over two years of university (equivalent of 10.0 Western courses). • Achieve a minimum average of 70% in 10.0 university courses completed including Business 2257. • Complete a secondary school mathematics course for students bound for university or an equivalent. • Complete Western’s Business 2257 course or equivalent. • Achieve a minimum grade of 70% in Business 2257 or equivalent. 3) As for your last question, we do determine the ‘academic challenge’ of a student’s course load. To have a ‘normal’ academic challenge, you should be enrolled in a full course load each year (5.0 credits), taking the appropriate level of course for the year of study and following your program requirements. If you complete a first year course during second year, your academic challenge will be assessed as ‘less than normal’. However, your academic challenge assessment will not be affected if you complete first year courses during the summer between first and second year and the grades for these courses would not be included in your overall average (providing you have completed 10.0 credits). Yes this is correct unless Business 2257 is part of your module in which case it will not count towards your 2.0 courses. Hi,
I read somewhere that to maintain AEO status you must take a minimum of 2.0 required courses in your module. Is this for first and second year combined or just second year?
Thanks!

Alan,
I noticed that there were a few different rounds of AEO offer sent out.
How many rounds of offers are sent out to non-AEOs?

A few quick questions, 1. How many HBA applicants are there? 2. How many HBA1 students are accepted? 3. How many standard HBA applicants have stronger applications than AEO HBA applicants, but don't get in because they weren't AEO? Basically, do the majority of offers go to those who deserve it, regardless of AEO, or does AEO mean a lot. 4. What's an example of an extracurricular activity that Ivey values above all? 5. Is there a section for Scholarships/Distinctions on the HBA application? 6. How many extracurricular activities do I get to put down on my HBA application? 7. This summer I have two similar jobs which I'll most likely be working next summer as well, is there any way I can incorporate them, so to speak, so I don't have to waste two spots for my EC's? Does Ivey dislike this? 8. Do I need a letter of reference for my HBA application? Does Ivey value Ivey alumni references more than others? 9. Is there a section for Travel/Trips on the HBA application? 10. 85% applicant without AEO or 78% applicant with AEO, assuming they have identical extracurricular activities? 11. Does Ivey have to meet a specific quota when it comes to girl/boy ratios?

You had pretty good EC's compared to what all the other AEO's in the facebook group had. Dont worry, with your hunger, you will get in after 2nd year. I know you do 2 years of any undergraduate program if you get accepted with AEO status. I was just wondering, what happens if after 2 years, you decide that you don’t want to proceed into the HBA program? Is it possible for you to pursue an undergraduate degree in the same program you did the 2 years of? I was also wondering if people ever finish their undergraduate degree (4 years), and then go into the HBA program for 2 years? Sorry, if my questions are lengthy or confusing. I’m still trying to decide what to do with my future. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. :)

If you decide not to proceed with HBA, you will just continue with the same program. I see some of my friends decided not to go with Ivey, and tried to finish their program in three years instead of four After graduation, they chose to work at a firm full time for two years. Two years later, they will apply to an American university of MBA. I personally think this plan works pretty well too Ivey HBA 2014

Thanks! In your first year you must take all the required courses for the program you are enrolled in. In your second year you must take a minimum of 2.0 required courses from your module (Business 2257 will not count for these 2.0 credits even if it is required by your module). There are no set number of rounds sent to non-AEOs. While the first round sent to non-AEOs was yesterday, applications will continue to be reviewed and offers will be sent out on a rolling basis.
