Hey I am a vegetarian for over 7 years and I do it for many reasons.
One major one was because of unnecessary slaughtering of animals for me to what enjoy a morsel?
There are many types of vegetarians:
For example I am lacto-vegetarian- meaning I don’t eat meat fish or eggs and lacto meaning I still eat cheese and drink milk i.e. dairy products.

I oppose killing any living creatures! Because they have souls too and deserve to live!!! Therefore I do not eat plants or animals, only pure sugar, viral DNA and amino acids, and petroleum jelly! Eco-revolution!!!

I am a vegan. I do not support the number of factory farms in Canada. I am fully in support of people who buy animal products from family run farms with healthy happy animal but I am not at a place in my life where I can finacially support that lifestyle, so i choose to do my part in other ways. I don't think we need to eat meat to survive, I probably never will. I also think cruelty should be minimized whenever possible. Some farms are very sad places for animals to live their lives. They exist for their own purposes, and if you need to use them it should be done in the most respectful manner possible.
I'm sure by now you think I'm some tree hugging hippy wanna be who's let PETA shove leaflets up her ass. Go ahead and think what you want. I find people who take the time to read the evidence and statistics supporting a vegatarian diet and then choose to ignore it quite obtuse.
Any constructive, intelligent replys are very welcome.

If you're anything like me, you might find that you had always liked the sauces and spices that often accompany meat, not the actual flavor of the meat itself. There are a lot of great substitutes that are full of nutrients and are actually quite convincing.

Yes we do. Meat contains vitamins and nutrients not available in plants. That's why vegetarians have to take an enormous amount of vitamins and supplements to sustain their lifestyle, which is expensive and unnecessary if they would just eat meat.
I find it extremely hard to believe that you personally know any vegans or vegetarians. I'm a vegetarian and most of the people I hang out with don't eat meat or consume animal products of any kind, and I don't see any of us dropping like flies or having any significant health problems without the aid of "an enormous amount" of pills or protein shakes. Meat isn't the only food in the world that contains protein or iron, but unless you do a bit of research, read some labels and get out more, you might not realize how nutritious grains, legumes, vegetables and meat substitutes really are. A vegetarian lifestyle is really not that expensive if you do it properly, and the only reason meat is so cheap is because it's pumped full of fillers and subsidized.

You vegetarians / vegans don't know WHAT you are MISSING! But thanks I guess, with more of you guys around, that means all the more meat for us omnivores to enjoy! Especially the bacon, because that stuff is the BOMB! So thanks! **Shields** Accepted: University of Toronto: Social Sciences + Vic One (Pearson Stream) Carleton University: Honours Science University of British Columbia: Arts

I'm just trying to figure out why I choose to accept meat and how others justify it as well. Hmmm.. I think humans were made to eat meat - we have teeth for cutting, etc. And while we *can* live without meat, it's unhealthy. Vegetarians and vegans especially can become very sick without proper vitamins that most people get from meat. For example, I'm allergic to nuts. I'm also iron deficient. If I did not eat meat, I would have very little iron in my diet. Pills and supplements help, but who says those are healthier than meat? Ethically, I have to go with a food chain thing. The higher-ups eat the lower-downs. It's unfortunate, but also how life works. Applied to:
