I think it all depends on the person. People excel differently in different environments. Each type of school would have it's advantages depending on what the person needs.

Coming from public school with no money and making it in post-sec and beyond will make me feel much more like an underdog. Although I do often wonder if I would have had more opportunities to succeed if I had come from a wealthy background and gone to prep-school.

For the past 12 years, I attended private (girls) school, co-ed boarding school and also spent a year in public school. I would say the learning atmosphere in private school is much better than public school. But in a public school, you get more exposure to people of different backgrounds(income-wise). It was an eye-opener for me,lol. Criminology/Asia Pacific Studies/Int. Relations

Public schools are very diverse and filled with kids with all kinds of personalities. Yet, public schools are considered an unhealthy enviornment. Where as Private schools have excellent faculty members - but the private school atmosphere isolates one from the real world.

I went to a religious private school where everyone knew everyone and there were only about 50 kids per grade. Yet each kid still had their own personality ... and there were different ethnic groups as well. Still, I would say we were in some ways isolated from the "real world". I detect some hasty generalizations in all these posts. You can't just assume that all public schools are bad, nor can you assume that private schools breed robots with no personalities. moodeline wrote:I go to a private school and I love it, not because of the fact that it's independent, but because of the school itself. International exchanges aren't limited to private school kids. Neither are extracurricular activities. My school's bands have an annual trip and this year we're planning on going to Washington DC; kids who are in tighter financial situations are given the aid they're needed to experience these things. Then again, the instruments at my school are awful. (The one I'm using was purchased in 1967.) The cafeteria stinks and I refuse to eat my lunch there. But I'd rather suck it up and not have to pay hundreds of dollars to write an exam. Education is a right. I refuse to pay for it.

Private school: is the place where your parents send you too so there's less of a chance of you ending up like a crack pot, you get a better education and somehow become a better person with better morals than that pimp across the street.
(btw, not all private schools wear uniforms)
private school-not paid by the government.
