Pretty sure it goes only towards tuition.
There's no way around it.

Does anyone know if you get a UBC scholarship, will it automatically be sent to pay for your tuition.. because I also have other scholarships that need to be used to pay for first year tuition only, anything else I will lose those scholarships. If the UBC scholarships does automatically pay for your tuition, is there a way to prevent that or is that not allowed?

Thank yous

It goes right to your tuition, but if you have more scholarship money than tuition, you will get a cheque issued to you with the remainder of the scholarship money that you didn't use. I hope that make sense.

I think that it can cover anything UBC-related, meaning residence AND tuition. I think you should talk to their admissions people, because they can best help - it sounds to me like your problem isn't a problem at all, congrats on those scholarships! alien

I think UBC is unlike most universities in that their acceptances are quite scattered, as opposed to done in chunks, so I don't think you have much to worry about maex, as long as your average is in the eighties!

Also Hdefinition, I read that they're handing out 80, which is quite a bit, and that they have increased that number from last year's total.

my average is a 92.4 right now, but I heard the Bcom program at UBC is quite competitive from this forum! How long after submitting your documents did you have to wait to be accepted?

Oh sweet! You definitely don't have much to worry about - I sent mine in early January and got accepted late February.

Wow... got the rejection email. I thought I had a pretty good chance at getting at least the smaller awards... I mean reading the past years' threads, it seems the people who get the big ones were AMAZING but with the cut of the entrance scholarships which I would have gotten, I feel almost betrayed by my first choice university.

I was offered $7000 from SFU without even APPLYING for a scholarship, and with the new cut of the entrance scholarship, what is UBC offering me?

I'm sorry that I might have sounded like a sore loser, but it was my WISH to get a major scholarship from UBC... sigh

yeah, i got the rejection email too.... I thought I had a good chance at getting SOME money.. I think it's weird that UBC doesn't give out many scholarships.. they're losing a lot of students to other schools. But all and all, I still want to go to UBC, scholarship or not.

Same here, guys! Oh well, next time! FYI for those of us not from Vancouver, it did say on their site that they prefer domestic students over outsiders, so for those of you like myself, don't be too disheartened! Lots more opportunity. :']

Has anyone else not been notified at all yet? I applied for the Entrance Award, and got the confirmation email back in March that said we'd find out by April 30, but haven't gotten any news yet! I think I'm going to wait it out a few days in case they're still notifying people- have definitely learned a lot about patience in this anxiousness! :)

I agree, patience for sure! In talking to an older friend who went through this same process tons of times, most of these deadlines for follow-up with respect to scholarship and bursary applications can be flexible, give or take a few days.

I got both of my rejection emails at the same time, for Entrance Award & MES. Not discouraged though, perhaps it's the small ones that add up!

You should call them if you don't receive any news from them by the end of this week.

For the people that recieved an offer for the MES and accepted. Does the UBC website show that you have recieved that scholarship yet at the 'scholarshop' part of the financial section of SSC?
