Just discovered THIS specific forum :)
Can't wait to be a proud member of the Class of 2016 at Carleton University!
Super stoked! (especially about the Tredeau Canal! [past competitive figure skater haha])

Just a tad curious, does Carleton have Frosh?
And what have you guys selected for residence (single, double? ; suite- style, traditional?)
And how about meal plans? (I've heard Carleton has really great food, but I have a tiny appetite!)

So excited to meet all of you! Btw, I'm from the West Coast of Canada, so glad there's so many of us British Columbians!

Carleton University- Journalism (Conditional Acceptance- Accepted Offer)
University of Toronto [Scarborough]- Political Sciences Co-op (Conditional Acceptance)
University of Waterloo- Business and Arts Honours Co-op (Conditional Acceptance)
University of British Columbia- Political Sciences (Conditional Acceptance)
Simon Fraser University- Arts [Undeclared] (Conditional Acceptance)
University of Alberta- Arts (Conditional Acceptance)
University of Alberta [Augustana]- Music (Conditional Acceptance)

YAY, Another journalism student!! :D

As far as I know they have frosh week/ fall orientation. I don't know much about it but I'd also really like to know if anyone finds out.

For residence I personally kept my offer of traditional double, I didn't request a suite or a single. I figure this will kind of force me into making friends since I'm quite shy and Carleton is 6 hours away from home. Not too mention its cheaper so I figure I'll avoid any extra costs.

The meal plans work kind of differently than most schools. They're dining hall is a buffet style and is tracked as meals. So you get a set amount of meals per week and each time you go in the dining hall you swipe your card and it subtracts one meal from that week and you just eat until you're full haha. Then at the end of the week the meals start at the set number again. Some plans also include dining dollars which you can use on campus. The dining dollars are split per term so if your plan has $100 dining dollars you get $50 first term and the other $50 the second term as far as i know you can top this card up with your own money as well. There are a bunch of different plans to choose from. I personally went with the 14 meals per week and $100 dining dollars. I usually skip breakfast or lunch depending on the day so I figure two meals a day will be good for me. If you have a smaller appetite though I know there's plans with even less I just can't remember them. Also I think the first few months you can change your meal plan once for free incase you decide you eat more or less than you initially thought.

Hope this was helpful. And that's quite the move! I thought I was moving far from home haha! Can't wait until September. I'm so excited for Ottawa and Carleton's awesome journalism program.

Hey guys!

Is anybody going to Carleton for the Neuroscience and Mental Health program? It's one of my top choices so I was wondering if anybody else was considering it as well.

i got accepted to that program too but I'm not sure if i'm going to accept the offer seeing as I haven't had the chance to visit the campus at all. I'm from Toronto btw. What are some reasons the Neuroscience program is on the top of your list?

I'm basically in the exact same position as you. I'm from Toronto and haven't visited the campus either so that's part of the reason I'm hesitating. But the reason it's one of my top choices is because the Neuroscience and Mental Health courses they have really appeal to me. They seem to have a balance between the bio/chem aspect as well as the psych aspect. Also, I like how it focuses on "mental health." However, I would be a lot more certain about my choice if I could just visit! How about you?

I feel bad that you guys haven't been able to visit. I can only imagine how tough that would make coming to a decision. Have you tried watching like YouTube videos? I know they have their Discover Carleton and their Carleton Residence videos that show the campus/ residences. Not in depth or anything but it gives you a bit of an idea.

I visited during March break and it is a really nice campus! It's sort of closed off and it's own little area so it's kind of like it's own little community which I liked a lot. Also it's surrounded by water which was a nice landscape feel. The tunnels I was skeptical about before taking a tour and honestly their not as bad as I had thought they'd be, they're actual quite useful although I'm almost positive I'll get lost. The residence buildings are not spread out among the campus but instead they are sort of in their own little area which is nice. I was quite happy with the residences themselves, they seemed like they'd be a lot of fun and everything seems easily accessible. The dining hall was really nice as well, the food looked delicious and it's a buffet style too which is cool. Overall I walked into my campus tour a little peeved off because I was set on Western and my mom wanted me to go to Carleton so I had to at least give it a chance and the tour definitely made me feel a lot better about Carleton, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed being there! I'm actually extremely excited to return to Ottawa in the fall. Hopefully this could be a little bit of a help to you, sorry it's so long but I figured I'd try and help out since you can't see it for yourselves! :D

Thanks so much for that Hunter14! It really helped me get an idea of what Carleton looked like :) And yea, I had no idea what to expect of the tunnels so it's good to know what they're actually like. I'm also really glad to know that it has a landscape feel:D Which residence did you like best?

You're welcome, I'm glad I could help. It's a really nice campus not to mention Ottawa is a lovely city!

I can't remember exactly which residences I visited and it doesn't help that I've visited multiple other rez buildings at two other universities haha. From what I did see though they were the typical residence buildings nothing too fancy but nothing awful either. I did get to see the new buildings Lennox and Addington though and those were quite nice considering they're new, I'd quite like to live in there :P I feel as though I'll be happy with wherever I'm put though. I also like how the bathrooms are shared between rooms rather than entire floors.

Just accepted my offer for Industrial Design. Anyone else in that program? I also have the same issue of distance, I live in the GTA but I plan on checking out the campus during the summer orientation. From what I've seen in pictures, videos and what not the campus looks great.

i chose this program for reasons similar to yours. I felt like the neuroscience program would be able to offer me a nice mix of chem bio and psych. The coop doesn't sound too bad either lol. I just accepted my offer and I'm planning on attending the summer orientation in july. The tunnels sound so cool! I'm excited to check out the campus and hopefully make some friends!

Hey everyone! I got into the Carleton Journalism program and Ryerson Journalism program a while back but, haven't accepted either because I'm beyond confused. Which one do you guys think might be better for journalism? I want to get into broadcast journalism and I heard that Ryerson was better for that. What do you guys think? I know there are a lot of future journalism students on this page.

Not sure if I'm in the same group as you guys, as the COOP adds another year to my program, but hey, who cares, we're all going in the same first year! Any B.Sc. students here?

Also, any B.Sc. Honours students having trouble registering for their Math courses? I'm in Bsc. Honours, Physics (Experimental Stream), and I can't register for Math 1004, Math 1005, and Math 1104 :( Sorta reassuring to hear that you're not the only one who's stuck in this **** boat of not being able to register =/

But anyway, CONGRATULATIONS EVERYONE! :)
