I went to the openhouse, and it's basically ALL on the portfolio. If you have a B- average or higher then you'll get in if your portfolios one of the better ones. for example, the person with the better portfolio with a 75% average will be picked over the person with a portfolio that isn't as great with a 98% average. Mine says "Deferred/ Late Decision required". It's been like that for months though! :( . And I've already annoyed everyone so much that I don't want to call again (Actually when i went to pick up my portfolio when I said my last name she knew what my first name was, haha). Are you a carleton student? Because the people I know from Carleton also have the same. So if anyone wants to call Admissions office, let me know what they say!
I called today and Admissions said, "Yah, basically first round of offers are out, and those on the waiting list have been notified. There is a slim [and he stressed slim] chance of a second round of offers and waiting list, but yah... they probably just didn't get around to inputting the data to your file yet. There are about 80 spots and like 800 applicants..."
He was very polite, which was nice.
I'm not a carleton student at this time. I have been a RMC, U of Ottawa, U Vic, and Athabasca student. I'm an "old lady" at 34, trying to career change. All my life I've made schooling decisions based on life choices I didn't have much of a choice in. And now, though it's taken a while, I've finally got a path. But I don't have the whole option of any schools out of driving distance, and I don't think there are any online architect schools. I have a family and a husband who works, so I either get this or I figure out a different path forward.
I remember the excitement, though, back out of highschool, regarding differnt school choices. I took RMC Computer Engineering over Western for English Literature, Waterloo for Math, and Guelph for something that I can't remember. Gah, that's so long ago. I must be the ancient one online here.
EDIT: When people say portfolio, does that mean the artwork mostly? Cuz i have a damn good resume... but I'm not really an artist. I do good line drawing, but I'm not a painter or anything like that. I have no training in colours beyond OAC art class. Does that mean no chance with the portfolio against stupendous visual artists?
