There has been a lot of hype surrounding the environment and green energy in Canada, as reflected by some of the government initiatives. However, the private industry for the "environment" is pretty underdeveloped as it's only had pretty recent hype. A lot of the actual environmental jobs go to people directly in engineering (like environmental engineering) and science, who have tangible knowledge on how to innovate. The remaining jobs for people in business/poli sci end up doing environmental policy related work such as lobbyists or controllership.
Conversely, you could go down the traditional educational path of business and just end up working for an environmentally focused corporation. Ultimately, I think that the lack of development in the environmental industry is reflected through the lack of truly focused programs.
As for the actual job market, I don't really know. The only jobs I've come into contact with are with provincial/municipal government ministries.
