I'm 1/4th Komi, a western asian "race"/culture/ethnic group/ect from Siberia. Looking at me you can tell that I might not be 100% "white." But at the same time unless I tell people, sometimes they don't quite notice.
Reading what I can on the Stats Canada website the definition says a visible minority is someone who is "non-white or non-caucasian." It also lists western asian as a minority group.
So:
1) To qualify as a visible minority, do you have to be a certain "percentage other?" Does it mean you have to "look like a minority?" 2) If I qualify, (for scholarships) would I be better of saying I'm just white? Would applying as a visible minority just piss people off? (Because I don't "look enough like a minority")

Say yes, you are a minority :p And no, they ask if you are a minority to see if you qualify for any additional awards. Being 'white' doesn't help but there are awards for Ukrainians, Russians, Germans, etc if you look around! Queen's Commerce '16
