Alright, so we just received our rooming assignments for Queen's the other day, and I was placed on the West campus. Is it really as bad as everyone claims? Where does all the hate stem from? Other than possible transportation issues, what is it about West Campus that scares so many people? Regardless, I'm going to try to make this a positive experience, going in with a good attitude. cheers

Well, the room assignments have not been actually sent out yet, there was just a glitch in the student gateway. The official assignments should be sent August 3rd I believe.

As for your question pertaining to West campus, the stigma attached to it is because of the relatively long commute times (~20 minutes) to main campus which may be a hassle, especially if you have early morning classes and you struggle to get to class on time. Other than that, it's completely fine. Buses run every 15 minutes so it isn't really a big deal.

Was it actually a glitch? Or is that just what they were saying to cover up the rooms being leaked a few days early? I doubt anyone's assignments will change. Probably just overloaded with parents phoning in that night and complaining about west before they were ready for it.

And yea, The commute would really be the only thing I can imagine being bad. I'm just worried that I'll have a tougher time meeting people being so far away.

Yep. Queen's Residences issued a statement saying that some students have gained access to the gateway to find their rez assignments and they also pointed out assignments may still be subject to changes. The official assignments will be issued tomorrow; Queen's will send you an e-mail about this. Many upper years have been saying that the same system issue occurred in previous years so I think any changes in placements will be rare. Queen's has also stated that any room change requests will not be accepted until at least Sept. 10.

There are many buildings within Jean Royce so you won't be disconnected. Additionally, there are after hour bars and such where students hang out so it's also something that most other rez halls lack.
