I have a phone. It's in my room right now. I'm in the living room. If I get a text I wouldn't know. Nor would I care. If it's an emergency you probably shouldn't be texting me, 911 might be of better service. If it's not an emergency then it doesn't require an immediate response. If you text me asking to meet up at 6 and I get the message the next morning when I wake up, I'm not going to waste my time texting you back explaining why I didn't answer your text from the previous night. I live my life in the real world, not the text message world.

Phones are great, don't get me wrong, but they come with a price and I don't think a lot of people, especially youth, understand this. While your texting social life might be great, how's your in person social life? Personally my texting social life sucks, but my in person social life is great, unless I'm with my hyper-texting friends who spend most of their time texting on their phones anyway. Lame.

i hate annoying texters. people who don't let up ever. i mostly text and i do text a lot, conversations will go on forever but that's due in part to the fact that my bestfriend and i live in the country and most of our friends (including her) don't have internet, so we rely on texting to talk/use it like msn.

i don't like being ignored though. most of the time it's an important matter. like being picked up, since we all live out in the middle of nowhere. 20km is a long way to drive to pick someone up so if i don't get an answer, i'm not wasting my gas. too bad.

I don't use my phone that often, so I stick with my $100 pay as you go. I'm charged 15 cents for incoming and outgoing text (will soon increase to 20 cents) so I usually don't text/reply unless its important. I'd prefer an actual call since you'll find out more than from short brief (usually pointless) texts, and it would costs less on my part.

What really bothers me is how glued people are to texting. When I hang out with my friend, she spends 80% of the time texting. I feel like I'm the one interrupting her!

like the past two posters, I have pay as you go so I don't send a lot of pointless texts saying goodbye/thank you etc.
however, I only pay 10 cents for outgoing, and get incoming free :)

calls are 25 cents a minute (40 cents long distance i think), both incoming and outgoing.

Someone find out jensaur's phone number so we can txt-bomb her SA style! Do you seriously get charged for INCOMING txts?! That's crazy!

And I prefer txting over cellphone calls because I only have a limited amount of minutes but I have unlimited txts. However, I don't get offended or upset when people don't txt "Thank You" or are non-responders because I know they might not have an unlimited txt package.

There are a few who do have an unlimited txt package and don't respond with a simple "thx". Those guys almost always turn out to be ungrateful pricks IRL.

I don't see why someone would have a great "texting social life" and not have a good in-person social life. It's not like loners have anyone to text.

lol! most pay-as-you-go providers charge for incoming texts. It can be really frustrating when people with unlimited texting assume that everyone has unlimited texts and send pointless ones.

I pay 15 cents for every incoming or outgoing text so I try not to give out my number when I can help it and if I do give someone my number, I ALWAYS tell people not to text me unless they really need to. Still, people seem to forget.

This sums my thoughts up (plus I don't even have a cell phone of my own)

do you freak out when people leave their instant messengers signed on when they're not using them, too?

and yeah, the difference between the examples you listed (tipping, holding the door open...), and expecting people to answer your text messages immediately, is that your examples don't involve regulating how other people should use their own belongings. Quit your yammering.

lol... Please. Like ownership of the cell phone is the ultimate variable in the point I'm making. What about my third example that you conveniently ignored? Or would that be regulating how someone else uses their mouth? And for the record, you are "regulating how someone else uses their belongings" by complaining about that person not tipping (i.e. using THEIR money).

Btw, nice try switching the topic from "not responding" to texts to "not responding IMMEDIATELY". If you need to release your frustrations, going for a run probably works better than randomly choosing a thread on a forum to play devil's advocate in when you have no argument whatsoever.

I wasn't ignoring the classmate example at all, it still applies. and I didn't switch the topic either, or at least didn't mean to. Regardless, I was referring to you getting mad because someone won't answer a text message of yours.

you mentioned regulating someone's mouth - that's ridiculous and I'm not going to sit here and explain to you why. the tip thing? because waiters get a low pay.

my argument is awesome and you are a little baby. if people aren't answering your texts, perhaps you should explore the reasons behind the predicament before being a big baby on an internet forum. maybe this person has to pay for every vapid, useless text they are required to send in order to satisfy your needs, or they are busy, or they don't like texting, or maybe he or she doesn't want to talk or maybe they want to thank you in person, or maybe they think text message etiquette is ridiculous, or maybe yadda yadda yadda yadda

Just saw this know, but you are totally right, and I think Gorges26 is such a hypocrite, the least he can do is agree to disagree.
