Hey, I just finished my first year in western kin, and am pursuing a double major in kinesiology and psychology, so if you have any questions just ask!

Whats your GPA? (if you dont mind)
Why are you in Kin? What are your ambitions with it?
How does it compare to Health Studies? Easier, or more difficult? More people?

my GPA is a 3.7 however I didn't go to a single class second semester, but I've been told by a lot of people that I'm a pretty smart guy so I don't recommend doing what I did it was terrifying at times (especially physiology.

I'm in kin because I want to go into physio therapy/chiropractics so I thought it would be a good program to get me into those professional schools. Also, western has pretty cool activity courses too!

I think that kin is much harder than health sciences, especially in first year where physiology is a killer! health sciences don't really appeal to me because it's like the 'sociology of health' opposed to kinesiology which I feel is more applicable.

Hey bro I gotta couple of questions. I am either going to go to Western or Laurier Kine next year.

It look liked the structure of the program (BSc) seemed really inflexible and I need to incorporate all of my Med School prereqs... can you shed any light on this? Will it be easy to do it or will I be straining to include all of them (Calc, Physics, Bio, Chem, Orgo, English)

I also think that they only accept a portion of kids into the BSc stream from the first year pool... is this correct/incorrect? Any other info appreciated.

How difficult is it to attain high marks? Are the profs really tough? Is the material very difficult?

Is there a lot of work or is it relatively chill?

Is the program extremely competitive (between students)?

Are there a lot of premed students in the course? Or is it diverse in terms of what kids are planning to do in their careers.

Are there research opportunities available within the Kine department for Undergrads?

Are the Profs/TA's approachable, informative, and helpful (etc.)? Can you get extra help from them whenever?

What type of kids are in Kine? Mostly white kids or a healthy mix? Guys or females mostly?

Thanks bro! I may have more questions later. I appreciate your time.

Alright, there are a lot of questions so I will try to answer all of them so here I go:

By taking Kin you can absolutely take get all your med school prereqs, you are right in saying that only a select amount of students get into Bsc, you will however if you try your best you will mostly likely get into the program. First year just take your prereqs physio, kin, then take two science courses and maybe psych? therefore, you are taking science based courses which will prepare you for med school anyways.

like i said before I had a 3.7 GPA, however I honestly was really lazy and didnt really go to any classes, especially kin classes cause theyre soooooooooooooo early! the only brutal class is physiology! you think it'll be so easy because homeostatis is grade 12 is so fun and easy right? but honestly it was the hardest course i took in first year! so devote a lot of time to studying for it, don't end up like my class where 50% of the class failed the first midterm, and we got a lecture about how disappointed the prof was.

The two classes you take in first year kin are sports psych, and movement neuro sci, I really cant tell you what the profs were like because i never went, but i remember the sports spych prof to be really boring and dry, and the material was just awful! however i had a 92 in the course until i didn't study for the final exam and my mark dropped by 10% aha. The other class, movement neurosci was awesome! the middle part of the course was pretty boring but the beginning and ending was interesting! the labs are marked really hard, and if they say a certain amount of words, make sure its the exact or less cause the TA's counted the words and dropped 15% off every lab that went over.

The workload is pretty tough, equivalent to biomed kids, especially if you take chem, which is hear is brutal. so study study study!

The program, is not really competative, i would say that everyone's pretty tight-knit, but like all unis people will study together as friends, and compare marks as enemies aha.

most people who go into kin want a health related job such as physiotherapy or chiropractics, but its an awesome pathway, because lets say you dont get into med school with all other like 98379027340921 applicants you have the prereqs for physio and such.

There are deff research opportunities! the professor that teaches movement neurosci, dr. Heath announces like every class that he has a summer internship in his lab for interested and high achieving students.

personally I never sought help from TA's or profs but I heard that they're willing to help anyone who takes time to ask for help.

also, Kin is full of different kids, I''d say that most kids are pretty athletic and buff, however, its pretty diverse, and there's a pretty even mix, more girls apparently, because one of our cheers was "3 girls for every guy way to go health sci" sooo, yeah.

anddd DONE

Thanks a lot, seriously lol. I really really do appreciate it. You're a good person :D

Couple more questions for you if you don't mind as I am like 75% sure that Western's where I wanna go.

1) How does the admission to the BSc stream of Kine work? Specifically, a) How many kids are competing to get in and b) how many kids actually get in (approximations are fine)

2) a) What courses did you take b) What were the respective class averages in each of the courses (approx.)

3) How does the difficulty of the program compare to Biomed (I know you won't know for sure but I'm sure you have some idea)

3) Is co-op available at all? What about summer jobs or anything like that?

4) Why did you choose Western Kine over others? I myself am trying to decide between UWO, Laurier, and also Waterloo and Mac but mostly the first two. Any insight?

Basically the only thing keeping me from Western is that I want the program where I can get the highest GPA and I am unsure of which will be able to give me this. (I can't rmb if I wrote this in my previous post lol)

okay, so change that 75% to 100% western is awesomeeeeeeee! so bacially heres the deal no matter if you go to Laurier, Mac or Waterloo or Western you're getting the same degree right, however Western is awesome!!!! the rezes are so fun, youll meet tons of people, there is soooo much school spirit it's awesome!!!!! ANYWAYS:

so the admission for Bsc, you just like chill in a general program, where you just take the essential courses like kin and phys and such, then like in march you do this thing called"intent to register" where you just fill out a virutal thing saying which program you get into, in which case you'd choose Honours Specialization B.sc,along with a second choice if you dont get into your program; then around this time next year you know if you get into your program. good thing is that if you dont make the Bsc the second year you can reapply the next year! as for how many kids are competing, i'm not too sure? a lot of people I know want to do Bsc, however I think they select quite a few of kids, but im not 100% on this, just get an 80 average and you should be good.

compared to biomed, I'd say the program is equal if not harder especially if you're taking chem! (which is brutal).

I dont think co-op is available, but apparently in your final year you can get placements, and there are always lab opps so you should be fine. also that internship that I mentioned above is paid!

also, the only reason i chose kin was because i applied for social sci everywhere else, I wasn't sure what i wanted, but i figured if i wanted to get a high paying job I better do kin, aha.

pick western, it's awesome

and...

okay the GPA, every school is equally as hard, its all about how much effort you put in, if you don't put at least 2-3 hours of studying for every hour of class aside you wont get a high GPA its as simple as that!

anyways there you go!

Hello, I will be attending western kin in sept and would appreciate feed back on my course load.
I will be in
Kin
physiology
calculus
biology
physics

I will be taking chem next year and already have AP psychology credit. Western only allows 7 first year courses toward your degree which is why I don't think I can replace any course with a lighter one. By the way , my plan is to apply to med school either in canada or the us.

Any advice or comments on my schedule. I am really starting to think that my load is too heavy and will not be able to maintain a high GPA.
Thanks in advance..

hi, would you please tell me if an average of 79 or 80 is enough to get into kinesiology??!

im really trying to get the marks i want but i just want to ask someone with experience to tell me. im dying and i cant sleep at night. please tell me if its possible?

and if i dont get into kinesiology, i heard that people can get into an easier program, if i dont get into the program i like? is that true or possible?

and also, around what time should i be getting acceptances?

I am so worried. Thank you so much for your time
