A relationship in school is not necessary for mental and physical development, nor is it something to be encouraged by parents and teachers.Stay in school, don't do drugs, and don't knock up some poor girl. There's plenty of time for that after college. That's just what I believe in. It implies a lack of interest in a relationship, which is my situation right now.

Yes, the vast majority of teenage relationship are unsuccessful and end in ridiculous drama. But it's also true that that sort of thing prepares you for future relationships that are more mature and lasting. Failure in high-school romance allows you to learn what it is you're "looking for," so that those failures are less likely to repeat themselves.

Here are the criteria of what I want in a girl: - Independence - I don't want a girl who's constantly sending me text messages or who always wants to be with me. She has to have her own life with her own priorities. Regular dates and communication are good, but there's a limit. - Informed - I can't stand being with naive people. I need a girl who keeps herself informed and is genuinely curious about the world around her. - Not vain, not ugly - I want a girl who doesn't care too much about brands, makeup and such (because I don't care either - can't relate to someone who does). Also she doesn't have to be a supermodel, but it's hard to have a relationship without a physical attraction. - Equality - I need a girl who really believes in this word. I expect her to be as nice to me as I am to her. Any girl who expects the guy to do something and doesn't expect to have to do it as well (like paying for things) is pathetic IMO. Gender roles, aside from parenting infants (the ladies have bodies built for this), should no longer exist. - Entertaining & common ground - I think anyone can agree that having nothing in common and no fun is not healthy for any relationship. We need to "click". - Optimistic - More often than not, I want someone who's smiling and can view the positive in any situation. That really brings the best out of me, and I need that sort of indirect support. - Committed - She can't be changing her mind on a whim all the time. This really annoys me. Of course most of the girls who fit the above description are already in long-term relationships and are therefore unavailable to me :(. That is the reason why I'm 19 and single. Yeah, bro, that type of girl is hard to come by. Just hard to meet a girl like that, really. You'd pretty much have to be in a lab group together or something like that, and you'd have to pray that she doesn't have a boyfriend. That type of girl almost by definition is not going to date d-bags, so if she's in a relationship, she'll probably be in a relationship for a long time. Good luck. its nice to hear that there are still guys looking for this type of girl rather than the clingy, brand name, gender role oriented girl most guys want.

On paper, I don't think any guy wants a girl like that. Stick a girl like that in a room full of guys, though, and probably 95% of them would try to pick her up. I had my first proper girlfriend when I just turned sixteen and since then I've never wanted to be single. I was single for like a month between her and my current girlfriend... a pretty short time I know considering it was an 18-month-long relationship. But now I just love having somebody around who I can be close to and share my love with. And can make me sandwiches. jk ;)

Maybe I got the wrong impression.. but what I thought was that he would go out with anyone just to have somebody around... I'm not saying he doesn't love his girlfriend but I've seen guys that don't really love their gfs but stay with them because they would feel lonely.

I know a girl like that. She's only dating her boyfriend because she'd have almost no one to hang out with otherwise.. which is pretty pathetic, imo. 4A University of Waterloo Honours Fine Arts Studio 2013 Front Desk Assistant - Residence/Housing

I'm twenty years old and single. I've only really dated three guys. None of them ever got to the boyfriend/girlfriend stage though. They all ended it with me within a month of dating. I've recently found a guy who's very nice and we get along really well, but I'm scared to date him. I think it's because I know he wouldn't leave me so soon like the others. Which leads me to believe that I've already developed commitment issues. That idea scares me as well. ~ "Don't Follow Your Passion, But Bring it With You" Mike Rowe ~

I'm 17, been with the same person for 3 years. The fact that I looked at your name after I read what you wrote made this post hilarious. Trust me, I think that if you found a girl with all those traits - her appearance would be the last thing on your mind. Then again, if she were to be identical to a troll.. Try again. But hey, you never know. And don't lose hope! You're only 19 fool! Live a little and she'll show up ;) PS - I've gotta agree with your point on the make up and brand crap. Amen to that. I think that I'm going have go with a slightly old dating tip: take it little by little, step by step - all in all, go slow with it! By taking it slow, you'll find out more about him and about yourself - how you feel about him, how he makes YOU feel. By figuring all this out, I think this will give you more of a chance to see if you see him in the future. It doesn't have to be in the long run such as 30 years from now because hey, you're only 20. Don't waste too much time doubting yourself because one day you might find yourself regretting it. Regret makes you old and bitter. And everyday you wait is another day you'll never get back again. I think that everyone can guess my current relationship status correctly by judging the size of my post..
