Are there toasters and toaster ovens available in the cafeterias or lounges? How about stoves?

I think there would only be toasters or toaster ovens available if a resident brought them in and put them in the lounge for all to use. 4A University of Waterloo Honours Fine Arts Studio 2013 Front Desk Assistant - Residence/Housing

I want to go into health science and wish to get a suite style room for res. Which building would you suggest going for that's not too far from the potential classes?

I don't know anybody in Health Sciences, but I'm assuming that the closest suite style residence would be University of Waterloo Place (UWP). UWP offers single rooms and double rooms. The number of roommates you have with you in your suite depends on which building you end up in. However, I wouldn't count out Mackenzie King Village (MKV) either. It's only maybe 5 minutes further to walk to the science buildings I'm thinking of. Also keep in mind though that if you are taking any classes that don't require specialized areas (such as the ones in the science buildings) you could be placed anywhere. For example, I took a history class second year and the room location ended up in the Math building. 4A University of Waterloo Honours Fine Arts Studio 2013 Front Desk Assistant - Residence/Housing

Hey! so i have a few questions concerning rez at Waterloo.
1. Once i apply for rez & choose my specific rez, how do i indicate that i want my roommates to be my friends, who are also applying for the same rez as i am? Is it a guarantee that i'll be put in the same rez as them? (most likely choosing UWP btw).
2. In UWP, how big are the suites? Is it more cramped for 3 ppl? 4?
Thanks!

Thanks! Hi! :) 1. The process for applying to residence goes like this: First, you'll pay your $500 non-refundable deposit in order to secure yourself a guaranteed spot in residence. There is also a form you'll have to fill out. This form is NOT where you'll be picking out a specific residence that you want. On this form, you will be able to specify if you have any special needs that may need accommodating or if you want to live in a Living Learning Community. Note that if you choose a Living Learning Community, you are guaranteed a room in the residence where that specific community is located. For example, if you are applying to Arts & Business and decide to join the Living Learning Community, you will be placed in Ron Eydt Village. The second step is the Waterloo Residences Preferences Form. On this form, you'll rank the different residences. Basically, they'll list different styles for you like this: Ron Eydt Village - Double Room Village 1 - Single Room Village 1 - Interconnecting Room Village 1 - Double Room On the right hand side next to these choices, you'll be able to select which ones you would prefer in order of preference. You'll also choose a meal plan on this form, as well as specify your roommates. When it comes to choosing your own roommates, make sure you have all your roommates Waterloo Student ID numbers. Without these, you will not be placed together. Also make sure that the number is the right one. If you get a digit wrong, you will not be placed with your roommates. While it is likely that you will end up with the roommates you choose, this all depends on your lottery number. You and your roommates will be assigned ONE lottery number as a group. If your first choice is taken, the system will attempt to put you into your second choice, etc. If the system cannot accommodate your roommates, you may not be placed with them. So in short, no it is not guaranteed although it is likely. 2. For UWP it depends on the suite. I will say that it isn't nearly as spacious as MKV or CLV when it comes to suite style. Often the common areas are very small and only include a kitchen and small table, whereas other suite style residences also have a living room area. The bedrooms will vary in size though. Some units have a single big bedroom with some small ones. You are assigned bedrooms though, so you will not have a choice. I recommend coming for a tour if you can, March Break Open House is quickly approaching. 4A University of Waterloo Honours Fine Arts Studio 2013 Front Desk Assistant - Residence/Housing

Does each floor all have the same room plan?
For example, let's say the 2nd floor, I get a single room. Does that mean that everyone else on my floor also has a single room?

No, definitely not. For instance, in V1, every floor had some number of single, double, and interconnecting rooms. In UWP, each apartment on the floor had its own unique configuration. etc...

Hi, I'm going to biochem this upcoming fall and is considering UWP. Is it a good choice?
I love privacy but still would like to have some social life. Do the people on the floor talk and such? Or you basically just stick with your suite-mates ?
Are there alot of other science students at UWP? Or it just all depends ?
Thanks !

I was wondering about the food at the the residences v1, rev and some of the colleges. 1) Which has the best? 2) Say you live at rev, but want to eat at v1. Are you allowed to eat there or you have to stay at your own residence?
Thanks :)

Thanks ! Yes, UWP is nice. I'm going to be quite honest and say that the majority of my friends that lived in UWP didn't like it. They found everyone to be anti-social and didn't even get along with their roommates. But, that being said, it is what you make it! I do have a few friends that loved UWP because they went to all the res events and made the best of it :) UWP is pretty diverse. I guess in general you'll probably find more engineering students as the engineering buildings are very close.

Thanks :) 1) This definitely depends on your taste! 2) Yes, you are allowed to eat at any of the cafeterias located on campus :)

Yes, the chance of first-years getting MKV is about 8%. It seems they like to place a lot of 4-stream people in there so they can actually use the AC during the summer, but this may just be a coincidence (MKV is the only residence with AC).

REV has pretty decent sized rooms, so I'm sure you'll be fine. A lot of people I knew roomed with friends from high school and they enjoyed it. But, a lot of my friends also didn't because they wanted to meet new people and felt they would just stick with thier high school friends.

Just wanted to note that the official residence forum will be launching in June where myself and other housing staff members will be able to answer any questions regarding residence and resnet! 4A University of Waterloo Honours Fine Arts Studio 2013 Front Desk Assistant - Residence/Housing
