The residence community ranking form (where you paid your $500 deposit) is still available until June 1st, so the form will likely go online sometime after this date. I unfortunately don't have any specific dates for when it'll launch, but other staff members will be able to answer this once the forum is opened early June. 4A University of Waterloo Honours Fine Arts Studio 2013 Front Desk Assistant - Residence/Housing

I was planning on going to UW Place but i realized that their wasn't any cafeteria within the actual residence area like how it is in V1. Does anyone know if there is a cafeteria or restaurants that are close by? Also what is the difference between the Value Plus Meal plan and the regular mean plan required for V1 & REV? Thanks for you help! SYDE Class of 2017

Thanks for you help! Hi! So the way meal plans work is that the funds available for you to use are broken down into two categories: Meal Plan Dollars and Flex Dollars. Meal Plan Dollars can be used at on-campus eateries and Flex Dollars are used for everything else - vending machines, laundry machines, and off-campus locations. Since UW Place is a suite style residence, no plan is required. However, if you purchase a meal plan, you can use the Flex Dollars available to eat at the University Plaza, which is across the road from UW Place. There are many locations there that accept the UW WatCard as payment, like East Side Marios, Pita Pit, Williams, Curry in a Hurry, Farah Foods, and some others. There's also a Sobey's that accepts Flex Dollars if you take the bus there for groceries. The difference between the Value Plus and Regular meal plans is only that Value Plus is meant for suite-style residences and the Regular meal plans for V1/REV. I hope that helps! 4A University of Waterloo Honours Fine Arts Studio 2013 Front Desk Assistant - Residence/Housing

I have a question about the value plus meal plan. Suppose we buy the basic meal plan, If we run out of meal plan dollars, can we buy the meal plan again in the middle of the term. Another question I have is if we buy the Best buy plan and we have fund left over, do the meal plan dollars stay as meal plan dollars, or do they convert it to flex dollars for the next term?

I am unsure of whether or not you can buy a new meal plan in the middle of a term, all I know is that if you are in a traditional style residence you must buy a meal plan both terms, even if you feel like you don't need one for second term. If you do run out of money, you can always add flexible dollars to your account online using a credit card or a debit card, and you can also add money to your card at any food services location. Once the term is over, your meal plan dollars and flexible dollars carry over. The only catch is that you will no longer have a meal plan discount the next year. So meal plan dollars will stay as meal plan dollars (and you won't have your discount) and flexible dollars will stay as flexible dollars for each term you're at Waterloo until you run out of money. I believe that they may refund you the money once you've graduated if you still have money left over. 4A University of Waterloo Honours Fine Arts Studio 2013 Front Desk Assistant - Residence/Housing

So for the Residence application form...
Can I indicate that my first choice is to go to UWP with 2 of my friends, but If I don't get this, my second choice would be a living learning residence at V1?
Basically, by indicating that I want to do living learning, would I automatically be placed in the living learning residence regardless of my first choice?

Basically, by indicating that I want to do living learning, would I automatically be placed in the living learning residence regardless of my first choice? The form that is available right now, the Residence Community Ranking Form and Deposit, is where you indicate whether or not you want to be part of a Living Learning Community. If you have filled out this form and selected to be involved in the LLC, you WILL be placed in that residence, regardless of what preferences you fill out on the next residence ranking form. Also, in regards to roommates, the residence system will attempt to put you with your roommate in the order of your preferences. If you put UWP as your first choice with 2 roommates, it is unlikely you will be placed in V1 if UWP is full because the system will attempt to accommodate your roommate request. However, the LLC will mean that even if you specify roommates you will not be placed with them, you will be placed in the Living Learning Community. 4A University of Waterloo Honours Fine Arts Studio 2013 Front Desk Assistant - Residence/Housing

PIMJAA wrote:Hi, I'm going to biochem this upcoming fall and is considering UWP. Is it a good choice?
I love privacy but still would like to have some social life. Do the people on the floor talk and such? Or you basically just stick with your suite-mates ?
Are there alot of other science students at UWP? Or it just all depends ?
Thanks ! It's good to see another Biochem student! I personally lived in V1 during 1st year, and I remember the few biochem people living in UWP had to walk a long way to get to class. Btw, in general from what I remember, most our classes were held in the DC, MC, ESC, B1, B2 and ocassionaly RCH. Most of these buildings are located in the center of campus, and UWP is one of the farthest residences in my opinion. If you have any biochem questions, join the biochem club on facebook! I remember that any money that is left over on your meal plan is transferred to a different "tranfer" meal plan account on your watcard. This was kinda inconvenient, because although I knew I had money on my Watcard, I couldn't use it to pay for textbooks, or anything from chemstores (they only accept cash, debit, credit or flex dollars). The only option was to keep spending money on food. While handy sometimes, it was annoying also. University of Waterloo 2B Honours Biochemistry, Co-op

I'm trying to decide between Renison and St. Jerome's. Anyone know anything about the general atmosphere at these places? Is one is a better studying environment? Does one have more fun activities than the other?

From the Housing website: Quote: Streaming is an important part of the residence allocation process as it allows us to place students together in communities that will remain together for both terms of first year - whether it's fall and winter (8-stream) or fall and spring (4-stream).
Quote: I have some friends from home that I want to live with. Can I do that?
Yes, as long as:
You are the same gender You are in the same academic stream (For more details on academic streams, please read the section above on Academic Streaming)

Hey, I got an offer from St.Pauls last week for residence and was filling out forms and there is a section that asks if there's anything that would affect your room placement, such as allergies or something like that. Is frequently talking in your sleep a good reason to ask for a single room? Do you think it increases my chances at all? I mean I wouldn't want to wake someone up in the middle of the night or anything :P I know, this is a bit of a silly question :P University of Waterloo Environment and Business Class of 2017

because the chances of getting a room in MKV are so low, would it hurt me to put that as my first choice? i mean, would i be less likely to get my second choice if i wasn't placed in MKV?

It won't hurt to put it as your first choice. Remember that residence allocations are done by a lottery system, so you have an equal chance with everyone else of getting into MKV. The lottery system will assign you a number, and if by the time it gets to your number your first choice is filled, it will try to place you in your second choice, and so on until it finds a placement for you. Taking the above into consideration, it's difficult to say what your chances are. You could really be placed anywhere, so be prepared for that. 4A University of Waterloo Honours Fine Arts Studio 2013 Front Desk Assistant - Residence/Housing
