3. I'll be staying at REV first-year, where there's an indoor gym as well as an outdoor basketball court, and apparently a pool is somewhere nearby. Will there be a fee to use either facility, and is it either an annual-cost/membership type thing or on a per-visit basis, if there is a fee? Are there any opportunities to join intramural clubs or teams that are connected to these facilities if there are any that use them?

4. Can you bring a telescope into residence? Mine is about the height of an average person, 114 mm parabolic mirror on a mount two sizes too small, focal length (i.e. approximate tube length) 900 mm. It has about 14% of the light-gathering ability of the observatory telescope at the University of Waterloo.

5. I will be suppying my own linens and basic toiletries. What other items would you recommend to bring into your residence, that are not included when you move in? Some examples may include a towel, a bathrobe...

6. Can I bring a musical instrument such as a keyboard into my room, considering its size, volume and value? What for slightly louder instruments such as an acoustic/electric guitar/bass, or a much louder instrument such as a flute or trumpet? Would some of these instruments be relegated to use in the REV music room only (citation source: traditional style residence video, YouTube)?

7. Do the University Colleges offer any scholarships?

8. Can you interact with the other students and professors staying in your residence in other rooms, on other floors or in other residences?

9. How do students who have income typically file their tax statements while staying on residence?

10. What are the opening and closing times for the common rooms at Ron Eydt Village? Are there any tunnels between this residence and other buildings?

I can't answer your first 2 questions.

3. No usage fee - it is included in your tuition and other fees charged each term. Campus rec runs a massive amount of activities and intramural sports leagues for every skill level. See there website for more details: http://www.campusrec.uwaterloo.ca/

4. I don't think this would be a problem as long as you are fine with how much space in your room it will take up.

5. Bring everything you need to live. Pretty much only furniture is in your room. You will need to bring bathrobe, towels etc.

6. As long as it fits -> The noise would have to be kept to a minimum during quiet hours, and you should make sure that you clear the noise with your roommate as well. It's about being courteous to others.

7. Yes. http://www.findoutmore.u...ancing/scholarships.php That has some basic info. See the individual college's webpages for more information.

8. Yes, that is one of the main benefits of living in residence. Someone else will have to let you into their room/floor/residence though because you won't have keys. You can also hang out in the common areas.

9. Most probably file the same way they always have (if at all). You will have a mailing address in residence, so if you needed T4s etc. delivered then you can get them in residence.

Hey, so I found out who my room-mate is and from limited research I have concluded that we are far, far different people. Is this a recipe for disaster or can this work? :S

It *might* work, mostly because sometimes people who are appreciably different get along the best - I can't confirm or deny the recipe for disaster thing, though, because I don't have the formula sheet.

Thanks! Maybe I'll call Housing Services for my first two questions.

you can bring in your own furniture, but you can't move anything out.

How big is your monitor? I had no issues fitting a monitor, printer and other crap on my desk last year - and it was plenty stable. The desk wasn't some flimsy thing. (I will qualify that by saying I was in a V1 single so desks in other residences might be slightly different)

I'm gonna be staying in REV this fall and I want to make my own food occasionally. Am I allowed to bring cooking appliances to REV (hotplate, microwave, microwave oven, etc.) and use them in the floor lounge where the full-sized refrigerator and microwave are also located?

In residence, what options do you have for storing/heating/toasting food. I understand we can bring our mini-fridge. Are we allowed the same for microwaves and toasters - Are there floor microwaves/toasters? What about a floor stove or something like that?

These are all fire hazards and not permitted in traditional residence rooms. The only things in a dorm-style residence allowed in terms of appliances are a mini-fridge and an automatic shutoff kettle. There are microwaves available in all of the residence lounges, though.

All of these things are allowed in suite-style residence kitchens.

Are we allowed to cook in residence?

Unless you are in UWP, MKV, or CLV, you will have no equipment (can't bring your own) to cook in the traditional residences, so no. Of course, there's always a kettle for instant noodles if you count that as cooking.
