Very well written. simple and no flowery words !! In the past, based on what I have seen here the simple ones are the ones that get in. Good Luck !

I actually second this. It's just my personal opinion but yours was a relatively easier read than some of the others and I felt like I was genuinely listening to what you, the applicant, had to say for a change. Honestly speaking (and this isn't intended towards anyone in particular!), as I was going through some, I just stopped midway because I couldn't take the fluff anymore. I guess sometimes, you can tell when more "sophisticated" vocabulary is forcefully added...

Job well done and bravo is all I have left to say. :)

same sentiment.....one of the few that I actually read the whole thing!!!

Wahhhh, this week is going to be the longest!
I've been reading through this forum since January, adding sporadic replies every once in a while.
Anyways, here are my supp. app essays. They're not as good as what I've previously read, and I tried to take the advice of not trying to be so wordy, instead getting to the point with a personal flair. The 2nd essay is my favourite, and I took a serious risk with the 3rd one, hoping the judges will realize that I really wanted them to get a personal glimpse. Any comments would be greatly appreciated :)

My father always told me: “Life isn’t just about succeeding, but it’s about the lives that you impact.” When he first gave me that advice, I barely understood; of course, I was only seven-years old. Now, I realize that I was provided the foundation that led me to become the driven and determined young person that I am today. Since the raw days of my childhood, I've been an athlete, musician, tutor, sales associate, volunteer and designated leader. I strive for excellence; not in specific areas, but all areas of opportunity. Being a student, it'd be easy to define my life with endless cycles of studying and extra curriculars. However, eight hours, five days a week isn't even close to the majority of my time spent, hence, my family values. Growing up as a Vietnamese-Chinese Canadian with immigrant parents, I've learned from a young age how important it is to stay true to your family. They were the trigger of my aspirations into the world of medicine; where I will make a difference with families in need of care. I now realize the big picture is about the future’s successes, waiting to be claimed, rather than yesterday’s accomplishments. Along the path of life's unraveling, I will try to define my surroundings and turn illusions of desire into reality. I don't believe that is what would be deemed a "definition"; rather a story that is currently being written. I'm not confined by the barriers of a label, instead striving to evolve into the person I've always dreamt of becoming.

Within the vast world of literature and plentiful streams of words, it has taken much thought to choose a single four-lettered term that should be preserved in the English language. One single word could strike a memory, cause a flashback or sum up life-long events. It would only take one word to give a book a title, name a human being or begin a new relationship. If I had the opportunity or delegation to designate one word that must be conserved forever in the English language, it would be 'wish'. Easy to say and only a syllable with no silent or strangely pronounced vowels, it is simple for this word to be added into anybody's vocabulary. We're taught how to say and the meaning of 'wish' during childhood. Often-used phrases such as "don't forget to make a wish before blowing out the candles", "make a wish on the shooting star" or "be careful what you wish for" are introduced to us at a young age, giving the impression that there is some sort of mechanism behind wishing that can transform our ambitions into existence. We learn that desire can lead to truth, and obtain the idea of hope and achievement. At a young age, we're taught that no matter how far-fetched our dreams may be, there's still a strand of possibility in everything we do. We grow with these tendencies to dream and believe, allowing hunger and devotion to shape our own conclusions. A wish gives courage to face the future by embodying the opposition of impossibility.

Friendship isn't a right, but a privilege. Let's be honest, it's impossible to be able to please everybody; even when she was your bestfriend -- of course, I emphasize on my past-tense phrasing. Two years ago, I lost a bestfriend of six years. We did everything together, and told eachother everything. She was my bestfriend, and she was whom I disliked most. Though a paradox, this phrase will make complete sense in a few moments. Everybody has experienced a relationship that was one-sided, and I was experiencing one for six years. We always fought; I always apologized. She would get angry; I'd grow worried. The cycle was neverending, and one day, I decided it had to come to a halt. She was the most difficult and unmanageable person I've ever met until this very day, and I couldn't handle any more negativity. One day, I decided enough was enough, and I told her exactly how I felt and the reasons as to why I can no longer have any affiliations with her. She wasn't even phased. This was the moment that I realized I needed to gain self respect, since it would be astonishing to receive any respect from her. Since I've erased her from my every day routines, I wonder if I gave up on our friendship, or if it was a friendship in the first place. The bottom line is, it took me years to realize that nothing is worth the feeling of imprisonment. Now, happy and surrounded by people that keep me positive, I'm proud to say that I overcame not a friendship, but a lesson of integrity.
i can relate to your third answer SOOOOOOO MUCH, and i'm currently in that situation.. though i'm probably not going to pull of what you pulled off. i find my friends in high school aren't really "friends" to me but rather.. i don't know, just people that are there, lol? my true friends were in elementary school and everything changed in high school. can't wait until i graduate and meet new people, i honestly don't like ANYTHING about my school.. major deflation of marks, retarded science department, everyone's fake, etc.

so you're agreeing with me, right? i don't think i came across your application so i'm kinda lost lol

my application would be hard to understand for the standard 12th grader but i'm hoping the 4th years are competent enough, if not, i wouldn't want to go to a school full of illiterate people anyway

lol Yeah, I'm agreeing. I took my supps down a few min ago. Maybe it's just the people I hang out with, but no one ever commented that mine were 'flowery'. In fact, their comments were 'it's like how you talk' and 'eloquent'. I threatened them if they didn't tell the truth... haha

Like I said, I wasn't directing that comment towards anyone! But it wasn't the words themselves so much as the "flow" of the sentences in some of the responses I have read. I was just pointing out that I really liked kimmmmp's essays and the reason for it. At this point, my opinion does not count anyways lol so w.e.

Most people who are marking does not know who you are- it's the first impression that really counts. If flowery words are your actual vocabulary then that is really great but for someone who is reading it they may just wonder if you are actually trying to show off. The person who is reading it is the person who is going to judge you , like it or not, unfortunately ! Well, I do hope you get in, though !!

I'm sure glad I did not apply.....the irony of this all for me this was the program I really wanted to apply but did not as I did not think I will meet the min requirement of 90% and so I just applied OU as my 4th choice just for the sake of applying. Just glad that my 90+ came in 2nd term and was too late to send in the application. The waiting can be absolutely killing!!!!!!

I would just like to point out that at 3:00 pm, I noted ~147,500 views. A few hours later, and it's almost at 149,500. Wow. I can feel the competition. Silent, but deadly. Haha JK (but not really?)

I think once it passes 3 pm and no one has news, there is noo way it is happening whatever day that is. So I kind of relax. Well, relatively speaking of course. And I know it's happening Friday but for some reason, my brain hasn't actually processed that. And I don't think it will.
