Exams & Memorization: Study Notes

By Studentawards

The following tips, originally posted at the Studentawards Forum, were contributed by students in our membership.

  • Write short notes summarizing the main points of a lesson or chapter reading RIGHT AFTER you do it. This keeps it fresh so the info is accurate and if you keep the notes short its easy for review later when you have exams because you have the main points outlined making it so that you don't have to go through that lesson or you can skip parts of it that aren't related. Also making points like this makes memorization easier for the long run because you can just flip through them before bed or whenever you have a second to reinforce that concept over time rather than last minute cramming. • Study notes, study notes, study notes! I've tried so many different ways to memorize and study, but I always come back to making study notes. Go through your notes, and pick only the most important points, and summarize them into your own organized study notes. The rewriting is really helpful to memorize, and the summarization helps you to quickly look over only what you need to, again and again and again. Another helpful tip is to colour code, and use acronyms! (Posted by: OhLaura)
